About the founders of The Knotted Stone
Jen Gerkin and Kathleen Schulte

In June of 2015, while scaling the Ringling Bridge over Sarasota Bay, we were struck with the idea of wanting something more in our lives. Our kids were grown and not as demanding of our time and attention. Our careers were completely meaningless and monotonous. We needed a new purpose and a way to stimulate our muffled creativity. It wasn’t completely clear at that moment what exactly would cultivate this creativity we craved but we knew we had to do something.

We began with a simple macrame bracelet and we didn’t stop. We added to it and expanded on it and pushed ourselves to learn new techniques. We let our imagination take us wherever it wanted and before we knew it we realized we were making something people would actually want to buy!

As self-taught artists, we’re inspired by the natural beauty and cultural energy that surround us here in Sarasota, Florida. We’re both mothers, wives, sisters, and daughters. We find intense joy and satisfaction in creating something that reflects the colors, textures, and intrinsic serenity that surround us.

Put on our bracelets and wear them as long as you want, wherever you want. They only get better with time. And a little saltier.
